Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) continues to intensify its enforcement action against delinquent taxpayers through its Special Enforcement Team (SET), as it conducted operations in both the Kingston and Mandeville areas recently which resulted in the recovery of approximately $2M in outstanding taxes.

A joint operation between SET and the Kingston Detection and Courts office forced an immediate settlement of outstanding payments from Harold Brady, as a result of the taxpayer’s default on a court order. Similarly businessman Ervin Williams was taken before the Sutton Street Resident Magistrate Court on a warrant of disobedience for failure to appear before the court on the designated date.

In Mandeville the Special Enforcement Team with the assistance of the Major Organized Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) recovered in full, outstanding amounts for Income Tax and Education taxes from several Taxi Operators, as well as full payment of outstanding Education and PAYE taxes by Lawrence Johnson of Mackjohn Traders Limited, all of whom defaulted on their court orders. Additionally, Norman Spence was taken before the Mandeville Resident Magistrate court on a warrant of disobedience for failure to attend court, and was subsequently granted bail in the sum of thirty thousand dollars $30,000.00

TAJ continues to carry out enforcement activities to ensure the protection of the revenue. Taxpayers are therefore encouraged to speak with the tax authority to make suitable arrangements, if they are faced with difficulties in honouring their tax obligations, particularly where a judgement has been handed down by the Court. Failure to comply with a Court Order will result in enforcement action by the Special Enforcement Team to seek warrants of disobedience.
