IAJ ELECTS NEW PRESIDENT
When the IAJ held its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, members elected BCIC’s Managing Director Peter Levy to be the Association’s 8th President,. Mr. Levy replaced Eric Hosin, President of Guardian Life who had served for two years. Under the IAJ’s Constitution the Presidency is rotated every two years between the Life and General Insurance sectors. Peter Levy served as Vice President , General before being elected President. Mr. Levy will be supported by Vernon James, Vice President ,Life and Mark Thompson, Vice President ,General
Consumer Price Index June 2018
KINGSTON, July 16, 2018: The All Jamaica Consumer Price Index for June 2018 increased by 0.4 per cent according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) Bulletin released today by the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN).
The division ‘Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels’, moved up by 1.2 per cent for the period under review. An upward movement in the rate for electricity resulted in the group ‘Electricity, Gas, and Other Fuels’ increasing by 2.0 per cent. While the group ‘Water Supply and Miscellaneous Services Related to the Dwelling’ increased by 0.8 per cent as a result of higher water and sewage rates.

IAC’S 35th Annual Insurance Conference was held at the Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall, Montego Bay from May 31 to June 2 under the theme, “Proud Of Our Past, Treasuring The Present, Defining The Future”. Over 500 delegates from over 38 countries were in attendance. From all indications, this 35th Conference was a highly successful event. President of IAC David Alleyne took time out to commend IAJ for the role it played in helping to bring the conference to fruition. Mark Wallis Managing Director of LIMRA & LOMA’s International Business Development presented a plaque to Guardian Life in recognition for over 30 years of continuous support for LIMRA & LOMA’s Educational Development Plans. Eric Hosin, President of Guardian Life and a member of the Conference Planning Committee received the award on behalf of the company.
Deputy Speaker of the Jamaican House of Representatives and Member of Parliament for Central St. James Hon. Lloyd Smith delivered a well accepted speech at the opening ceremony which highlighted several challenges and opportunities for insurance operations in the region.
The Conference which had participants from over 38 countries experienced presentations from numerous Insurance and business professionals from several countries. The IAC is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and growth of the Caribbean Insurance Industry. It has come to be recognized as the foremost insurance organisation in the Caribbean.
The final night of the IAC Conference was an occasion that will be remembered for a very long time. Entertainment was superbly provided by international reggae artist Tarus Riley. Part of the evenings activities included providing each attendee with a tam decked with dread locks which invoked much amusement.
IAJ ASSISTS KINGSTON TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL
IAJ is in the process of giving assistance to Kingston Technical High School to improve physical facilities at the school starting with the bathrooms. After a tour of the facilities conducted by the School’s principal IAJ agreed to donate an amount of $100,000 and work on the unsatisfactory bathrooms is expected to commence soon.
Christmas Season Greetings From IAJ President
The Christmas Season is upon us and so too will its accompanying festivities, spirit of good cheer and its central theme ‘Peace on Earth and Good will towards all’. For many of us it is truly the happiest time of the year. 2014 is fast approaching its end and what a year it has been. As a country, we are still grappling with social, economic, environmental and other challenges but when all negative and positive conditions are taken into consideration we are
obliged to conclude that Jamaica is indeed a blessed country.
MUNICH RE RENEWABLE ENERGY SEMINAR IN ASSOCIATION WITH IAJ AND CIPS
The Renewable Energy Seminar held by Munich Re in Association with IAJ and CIPS on October 22 was a great success. Attendance were in accordance with expectations and all participants seemed to have enjoyed the occasion and benefited from the information disseminated by the presenters.
