MONTEGO BAY, St James — Three high-powered rifles were among four illegal guns recovered yesterday during a joint police/military operation in Glendevon, one of the troubled inner-city communities in crime-ravaged St James.

According to a police source, the operation turned up two AK-47 rifles, one UZI sub-machine gun, and a semi-automatic pistol.

From early yesterday morning, a contingent of police and soldiers swooped down on Glendevon and neighbouring Norwood.

The operation happened a day after the police, during a press conference in Montego Bay, announced that they would intensify the ‘Get the Guns’ campaign, which they say has yielded success since it began last year.
