Industry Minister Anthony Hylton has tabled a Green Paper on the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) which is aimed at creating a regime to grow local business and widen access to export markets.
SEZs represent a wide variety of geographically demarcated areas that offer simple and efficient business regulations as well as procedures to investors.
As stated in the Green Paper, which was laid in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, SEZs will replace free zones and be promoted and facilitated as a strategy to attract and retain investments and sustain economic activity across various sectors of the economy.
Mr. Hylton says the document includes labour market reform initiatives aimed at removing the previous perception of the free zone as a sweat shop.
