The Association of Jamaica (IAJ) has now joined forces with the University of the West Indies to broaden the scope of its highly acclaimed Mathematics Olympiad launched by the Department of Mathematics last year.

The IAJ will be involved at the foundation end of the competition to be known as the Junior Mathematics Olympiad.

As a result of this partnership, the annual Vivian Rochester Memorial Mathematics Competition will now be included in the Junior Mathematics Olympiad and be titled the 'UW/IAJ Vivian Rochester Junior Mathematics Olympiad'.

This connection will enable students who were eligible to take part in the IAJ Mathematics competition, over the years to be linked to a wider Region and International Mathematics Olympiad. The winners of the local high school competition will be eligible to go on to the Regional Maths Olympiad and ultimately the International Olympiad.
