Since its inception in 1970 as the first Jamaican-owned life insurance company, Sagicor Life Jamaica Limited (formerly Life of Jamaica Limited) has extended its offerings to include pension funds management, employee benefits marketing and administration, health insurance and life insurance in both Jamaican and US dollars.
Through its subsidiaries offerings are also made in banking, property & causualty insurance and property services. The Group offers solutions to meet the needs of its customers across Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.
Sagicor Life Jamaica Limited (SLJ) was the first Jamaican life insurance company to be listed on the Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE). It has been the market leader among life insurance companies in Jamaica and has earned a solid reputation as a pacesetter, innovator and leader in the Caribbean life insurance industry.
During 2008, the company was rebranded to Sagicor Life Jamaica Limited repositioning it as part of an international organisation with operations in 22 countries across the Caribbean, Latin America, the United Kingdom and the United States.
In 2008, we launched a facultative brokerage, Sagicor Insurance Brokers and a commercial bank, PanCaribbeanBank. As part of our efforts to improve customer access, the Company opened two (2) new branches and extended the facilities through which customers are able to make premium payments and transact various policy queries.
In December 2008, the company acquired the health Insurance portfolio of Blue Cross of Jamaica, which was rebranded Sagicor effective January 1, 2009.
During 2008, AMBest Rating Agency reaffirmed a third consecutive financial strength rating (FSR) of "A" (Excellent) and an insurers credit rating (ICR) of "A" while in January 2009 CariCRIS awarded the company its second jmAAA rating.
